Virtual Information Meeting & Q&A Friday, November 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm Includes general information session and the opportunity to ask questions. Information Meeting & Open House Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 6:00 pm Includes general information session, campus tours, classroom/pathway demonstrations, teacher meet-and-greet, and Q&A with current STEM students and alumni. Application Deadline Monday, December 14, 2020 Per county policy, no DCSS magnet program can accept applications after this date. Interviews January 11th - 29th, 2021 See the link below to schedule your interview! Admissions Decisions Wednesday, February 3, 2021 Admissions decisions for all DCSS magnet programs will shared via email and the AwardSprings platform. Commitment Letter Deadline Friday, February 12, 2021 If admitted, please confirm your decision via the AwardSprings platfrom, even if you are declining your invitation to join the STEM program. |
Admission Requirements
Adhere to all Douglas County Magnet Program admissions deadlines and procedures. Be a current 8th or 9th grade student (please be aware that admission requirements for current 9th graders vary slightly). Students currently enrolled at LSHS may apply at any time. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, passion for learning, and natural curiosity, as evidenced by a strong academic record and application responses. Demonstrate a capacity for advanced mathematics, analytical thinking, and advanced problem solving, as evidenced by teacher recommendations and standardized test scores. Have a minimum average score on the GA Milestones (or its equivalent) of 525, a minimum math sub-score of 525, and a minimum Lexile of 1040 at the end of 7th grade. Attend school regularly and be an active participant in classroom discussions and activities, as evidenced by attendance records and teacher recommendations. Maintain a positive behavior report with no disciplinary incidents that negatively affect the learning environment, as evidenced by teacher recommendations and student discipline record. Obtain positive recommendations from your current Language Arts/English, Math, and Science teachers. |
The Application
PARENTS - While we encourage you to help your student complete the general information on this application, we ask that you allow the student to answer the response questions on their own. Feel free to discuss the questions with your student, but please allow him/her to respond to the questions in his or her own words.
STUDENTS - Make sure you pay attention to the directions and answer all parts of the questions. Remember to use the conventions of the English language (capitalization, punctuation, etc.). We want to see you at your best!
